Our Story

What began in 1987 as a small agricultural tyre business has grown into one of New Zealand’s most trusted names in tyre distribution.

Founded by Grant and Barbara Rushbrooke on their Te Awamutu farm, Tyreline started out with a hay barn as the warehouse and a farm ute as the first delivery vehicle. Steady growth and a commitment to quality led to a move to Hamilton — and the start of a long-standing partnership with Michelin, one of the world’s leading tyre manufacturers.

Today, Tyreline remains a proud Kiwi family success story and New Zealand’s largest privately owned importer and distributor of premium tyre brands.

What We Do

Michelin’s 2048 Sustainability Ambition

Michelin has set an ambitious goal for 2048: tyres made with 80% sustainable materials and 100% recycled at end of life. This commitment is guided by the Group’s circular economy approach — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Renew — and backed by major investments in advanced material technologies.

Key initiatives include developing renewable, bio-sourced materials through projects like Biobutterfly, and expanding the use of recycled materials with the acquisition of Lehigh Technologies, a leader in micronized rubber powders made from end-of-life tyres. These innovations reduce reliance on non-renewable resources while maintaining performance.

Michelin’s work also supports its forward-looking VISION concept — a fully recyclable, airless tyre made from bio-sourced and recycled materials with a renewable 3D-printed tread. Together, these efforts reflect Michelin’s long-term commitment to sustainable mobility and responsible tyre manufacturing.
